Parent Involvement Activities
Reader's Cafe! March 3rd, 2020 Read Across America Week!
Animal Tales Assembly and Summer Reading Kick Off! May 16th, 2019 6:15-7:15pm
We gave a free book to the first 35 families in the door. We invited Jean Patrick to come and talk to our learners and parents about the Public Library's Summer Reading Program. The Title 1 teachers and a 5th grade learner presented about the Summer Slide and the importance of reading all summer. Then Hannah from Animal Tales presented popular children's books and animals that went along with them. Banana Splits were served at the end. We had over 150 learners/family members attend. It was a busy, but great night!
Reader's Cafe- March 25th, 2019 noon-12:30pm
Our first graders showcased their reading growth to parents! Many of them read a book from the beginning of the school year and then read a book at their current reading level. Local and State Legislators were invited as well as the Mayor, School Board members, our new principal and our Superintendent. The time was followed with cookies and hot chocolate!
Muffins for Mom and Donuts for Dad
During conference week in January, we invited Mom and Dads into the school. We encouraged them to shop around at the Book Fair and enjoy a baked good, juice or coffee. We got a chance to talk with parents and answer questions. It was a great way to meet parents. We had a great turn out and ran out of muffins and donuts!
Love and Logic Parent Night October 23rd, 2018
Myrna Becker visited our school to speak to parents and teachers about Parenting with Love and Logic. She's a school counselor at the grades 4-5 building with the Douglas School District. Here are a few of her high points:
1. Empathy-The expression of genuine empathy has the amazing ability to soak up emotions. 2. Experience- Fire multiple questions to get them to think and not to argue. 3. Example- Dump the problem back on them. "What are you going to do about it?" The Parent and Community Involvement Committee served a meal and gave 10 free books to parents who came. |
Conference Night- September 27th, 2018
Consider helping out the Title 1 program at GBRogers!!!
The Title 1 Teachers will have a table set up in the commons on Conference night. This is one of many opportunities for parents to lend a helping hand. GBRogers is a School Wide Title 1 school as of 2014. At that time, we upgraded the Title 1 education program in order to raise the academic achievement for ALL students. By picking a blue hand and purchasing what is written on the label, you are helping ALL students and teachers at GBRogers.

During this two week course, you will learn what a growth mindset is, why it’s important, and best practices to support your child in developing this belief. The course is divided into 10 topics that include videos, short articles, surveys and reflection. Each topic will take approximately 5 - 10 minutes to go through and then you will be able to post a reflection of your thoughts.
I am excited to lead the discussions throughout this two-week course and look forward to reading your reflections about each topic. Feel free to include your child or children as you work through the topics and post your reflections.
